The Valleys of Bergamo
The city of Bergamo occupies a rather contained surface of 40 square kilometers, but it can count on a very vast provincial territory, the largest in Lombardy.
Being at the foot of the Orobie Alps, the northern part is prevalently mountainous and the principle Valleys of Bergamo are found here. One valley is Val Brembana, whose name is derived from the Brembo River that descends it, and another valley is Val Seriana, which gets its name from the Serio River. Val Cavallina is a valley that is carved by the Cherio River.
The mountainous part of the Province is characterized by many little valleys like Valle Imagna, and Val Serina, a true environmental and wine and food patrimony of Bergamo.
